Payment Policy

Payment is accepted via credit card or e-transfer. Sessions are $225 hour as of Oct 1, 2024.

My fees follow the recommended rates set by the Association of Psychologists of Nova Scotia.

Using Insurance or Benefits to Pay for Sessions

Provincial health care (e.g. MSI) does not cover psychological services. You may have insurance benefits that cover this cost (e.g., Blue Cross, Great West Life). Prior to booking your first appointment, please contact your insurance provider and/or EAP program to inquire about your coverage for psychological services.

If you have insurance and would like me to direct bill (i.e., get them to pay me directly), I will give it a try. So far, I have had no problem direct billing Blue Cross. I am not able to direct bill ManuLife, SunLife or Desjardins so if they are your insurer, you will have to pay me and then submit your receipt to them directly. If you’re unclear how you would do this, you just need to talk to your insurer, employer, or Human Resources department.

Clients without 100% coverage for their direct billed service will have to pay the outstanding balance after the session. Outstanding balances must be paid before the next appointment.

I do direct bill for clients with Treaty Status (First Nations and Inuit) who are covered by Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) Health Benefits.

Cancellations and Missed Appointments

Appointments missed or cancelled with less than the full 24 hours notice will be charged to you at the full rate of the scheduled services. Insurers do not pay for late cancelled appointments or missed sessions.

You can cancel your appointment yourself in the online booking system, send me an e-mail, or leave me a voicemail at (902) 266-7864.

Payments for missed appointments or late cancellations must be made prior to your next appointment in order to keep your appointment and any subsequent appointments already scheduled.

Receipts for missed appointments will indicate “Missed Appointment”. To note something different would constitute insurance fraud.

Bad Weather Cancellations

I will post on my website if I have cancelled sessions for the day due to bad weather. Generally, my policy is that on bad weather days, if Halifax public schools are closed, then all in-person sessions are cancelled. Online sessions will still be on but if you need to cancel them (because you may have to look after children or other reasons), I will be fine with that and there will be no charge. If you have an in-person session that day and want to change it to a phone or video session, just let me know at least 3 hours in advance of your appointment.

There is a charge for letters and report writing.

Psychological services are tax deductible so keep your receipts!
