Individual Therapy (ages 25+)

My job is to help you feel better. I offer a warm, nonjudgmental space for you to explore what is blocking you. Together we will clarify what the problem is and how to address it. People see me for a variety of concerns including anxiety, depression, habits, grief, relationship issues (romantic, family, or friends), work stress, trauma, phobias, PTSD, self-esteem, loneliness, disordered eating, anger, career counselling, and more.

My Approach

I use a variety of tools to help people but the overarching approach I use is David Burn’s modern version of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which is called TEAM. This form of therapy takes the best from all areas of therapy and combines it into an evidence-based, warm, effective and efficient way of creating change. To learn more about TEAM CBT, you can check out this moving Ted Talk by David or the Feeling Good podcast. I’ve listed some of my favorite podcast episodes on the Resources page so make sure to check it out. There are also tools to help you take a break from your brain and to shift your mood in a more lasting way.

My Free E-Book

I wrote a short self-help book that is free for everyone. It will give you a sense of me and my approach. There are some tools in the back that can give you some immediate relief while you are waiting for your appointment. Also check out the Resources page - there is a lot there!

Supervision for Candidate Psychologists.

I enjoy supervising psychologists on the Candidate Register. I provide the first year of supervision free and charge $100/hr for supervision for the remaining years. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you are looking for a supervisor for candidacy.

My Background

I have a Masters degree in Counselling Psychology which is a newer kind of Masters degree and just means the focus is on doing therapy. I have been providing therapy for over 10 years. This is my second career so I also bring my experience of making big life changes and working in a variety of settings.

Common Questions

What does it cost? Read the Payments page to learn about fees for therapy, how to pay, cancellation policies, and more.

Do I need a referral to see you? Not at all. Just book yourself in. The only time you might need a referral is if your insurer requires it (usually from your family doctor) before they agree to pay for your sessions.

What will the first session be like? I’m nervous! It’s normal to be nervous, I know I would be! In the first visit, I will make sure you are okay with all the paperwork you filled in, get to know a little bit about you, and then start exploring where you’re feeling stuck.

How many sessions will I need and how often should I come? I will give you an idea in our first session how often I think we should meet, but it really is up to you. You have a life and have to find ways to fit everything into it, including therapy. I will let you know if I think we are doing too much therapy and too little therapy for you to achieve your goals. As a guideline, people often see me every 2 weeks when they are really focused on a problem (although some may come weekly).

What do I call you? Just call me Karin. People sometimes are unsure and call me Dr. Kramer but I’m not a doctor and even if I was, I’m not big on titles.
